Jess Scutella is a multi-talented tattooist, artist, photographer, author, and musician residing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They are most recognized for their Japanese-inspired tattooing, building a career that has global recognition and connections, starting in 2013.
Currently, Jess maintains their practice at Kyklops Tattoo, where crafting unique and quality experiences for their clientele. The multifaceted artistic instinct in Jess allows them to pull from many different sources while crafting and staying inspired. Besides Japanese style, bodysuit tattooing, or horimono, Jess studies and works with bonsai, niwaki, and Shinrin Yoku at the renowned Phipps Botanical Garden and Conservatory. Patience, consideration, and long-term goal-building is exercised in that vibrant and natural environment. Further, Jess works with local ceramicists, through the non-profit Clay Pittsburgh, to build deeper communities and opportunities for those looking to be expressive and creative through ceramics.
Additionally, Jess has published multiple books of poetry, writings, and travel photography. They believe in sharing their stories and visions, so that others may have the opportunity to connect to the world. TAT:222 has poems and photos from tattooing around the globe, places like India, Japan, Brazil, and England.
Their musical projects have varied over the years, but Jess’s passion for drums and percussion has never wavered since they started performing in 2004. Since then they have toured around the US with performing artists like Brooke Surgener, Tuesdays Too Late, and Tyler James.
Jess hopes to provide fully expressive experiences, where people can be themselves completely, while also challenging themselves to make and be a part of any creative project. Through communication, understanding, and collaboration all things are possible.
